5 Tips For Learning Beyond the Classroom with Miami Regionals

This time of year, many of us are trying to work on ourselves, improving and growing through new habits and positive changes. One excellent change that Hamiltonians embark on is pursuing continuing education or a degree at Miami Regionals, with their affordable coursework and nearby campus locations in Hamilton and Middletown.

However, Miami Regionals also is an asset to the community in all the ways it helps you learn beyond the classroom. Here are just a few ways your local college can help you learn all year long.

Passport to Programming: This program actually enters you into a raffle if you attend multiple events on the Miami Regionals campus! These aren’t just lectures, though there are some interesting talks coming up this year. You can listen to music at Miami Regionals Downtown, sample food at dinners, and meet candidates from local elections.

Visit the Conservatory: From beautiful courtyard sculptures to the many plants inside, the Conservatory is like a living museum that constantly changes. Come to the conservatory to learn more about plants from the knowledgeable caretakers and to enjoy the lush greenery even when it is still cold outside. Hours are Monday: Closed; Tuesday-Friday: 9:00 am-1:00 pm; Saturday: 10:00 am-2:00 pm; Sunday: noon-4:00 pm.

Film Screenings: Free screenings of films like “First Man” and “The Mountain Minor” are like a night out at the movies but with the additional component of making us think and consider lives outside our own experiences.

Ignite Creativity at the TEC Lab Makerspace: With resources that help you 3D print, woodburn, or even make buttons, the TEC Lab Makerspace at Miami Regionals’ Middletown campus allows you to learn through exploring the abilities of the machines available. They have an open house to learn more about it on February 4th from 11am to 1pm.

See Performing Arts: The Parrish Auditorium is home to many performing arts activities, from the free Romeo and Juliet play by Cincinnati Shakespeare Company to the local Rotary Presents musical Oliver!, both official Miami Regionals events as well as community theater organizations perform here. Access to great theater is right here in your backyard.

No matter whether you choose to learn through film, lecture, theater, personal experience, or experimentation, you’ll see yourself grow over time. And just think: if you discover a new passion, you’re already in the right place to pursue more learning at Miami Regionals!
